🎯 Topic: Selling a Discovery/Strategy Phase to an Old-Fashioned Manufacturing Client

Challenges: The prospective client relies on trade shows and has a technically-written website that doesn't communicate value to buyers, making it hard to justify ROI for strategic/positioning work before lead generation begins.

Advice: Ask how many website leads converted to customers in the past year to highlight the gap. Use before/after conversion rate examples to demonstrate potential impact. Use AI tools (e.g., Claude) to quickly mock up an improved website as a proof of concept. Run a small paid media test with an optimized landing page independent of their existing site to prove ROI early. Ask if they have recordings of their trade show sales pitches to show the disconnect between how they sell in person vs. what's on their website. Consider a targeted landing page for a specific market (e.g., Colombia trade show) as a low-risk starting point.

📣 Topic: Meta Ads Lead Generation & Retargeting

Challenges: Running Meta Advantage+ lead form ads for ~1 week, getting ~2 leads/day, but no retargeting loop in place.

Advice: After opt-in, redirect users to the website so they can be pixeled and retargeted across Google Display, LinkedIn, and Meta. Maintain retargeting campaigns on all three major networks for all website visitors.

🤖 Topic: ChatGPT Ad Network

Challenges: Ads don't display to paid ($20/month) users, limiting B2B reach; click-through rates are okay but leads don't move down the funnel.

Advice: Not a recommended channel currently; monitor for future improvements, particularly if the $20/month tier starts showing ads.

💰 Topic: Packaging/Pricing Strategic Services

Challenges: Deciding between fixed price, hourly, or deliverable-based pricing for early-stage strategic engagements.

Advice: Selling results (deliverables) vs. selling process (hourly) are the two main models; manufacturing clients may be more accustomed to hourly/process billing. Avoid trying to do everything for everyone; focus on a few core strengths rather than building a broad, custom-fit agency model.

Best Advice

When selling strategic work to skeptical, trade-show-reliant clients, make the value visible fast — use AI to mock up a better website, run a small independent paid-media test, and let real conversion data (and their own sales pitch recordings) make the case instead of arguing it. On the paid media side, don't let opt-ins go to waste: route leads back to the website so every visitor gets pixeled and retargeted across Meta, Google Display, and LinkedIn. ChatGPT's ad network isn't there yet for B2B, so it's worth watching rather than investing in for now. And when pricing strategic services, pick a model that matches the client's comfort level — deliverables for those who want results, hourly for those used to paying for process — while staying focused on a few core strengths rather than trying to be everything to everyone.
